The Sensing Peat art and research network involves local and global artists, activists, groups and initiatives who see themselves as guardians of their peatlands and the ecological, social, political and cultural values associated with them.

WETBEINGS


WETBEINGS gathers approaches and examples of contemporary, historical and future forms of living in and with peatlands which are based on mutuality and sustainable survival of humans and peatlands. 

 

In Spring/Summer 2025 a series of symposia, Online and in experimental radio transmissions as well as in and around the Aukštumala peatland, Nemunas Delta, Lithuania is planned.

Sensing Peat Research Residency with Jeanna Kolesova 

From March to October 2025 artist, filmmaker and researcher Jeanna Kolesova is Sensing Peat’s artistic researcher in residence.

Publications

The publications on this page explore the ecological, cultural, and historical dimensions of diverse peatlands. The works range from scientific and lived experiences to artistic reflections, speculative storytelling and myth making. They highlight bogs, mires and swamps as living archives, fragile ecosystems, and collaborative sites of memory and future visions. Contributors share their work that weaves together research, poetry, sound and video material, inviting visitors to explore the hidden murmurs of the mire.
