On the occasion of the 250th birthday of Caspar David Friedrich and the 25th anniversary of the Michael Succow Foundation in Greifswald, the foundation is offering four outdoor art workshops. Culture enthusiasts can discover innovative artistic perspectives on the drained mire landscape of the Steinbeckervorstadt Polder and the works of Caspar David Friedrich. Artists Juliane Tübke and Alison Darby, poet Siljarosa Schletterer, and painters Lene Schwarz and Anett Simon provide individual workshops for interested citizens of Greifswald.

In celebration of the 250th birthday of Caspar David Friedrich and the 25th anniversary of the Michael Succow Foundation in Greifswald, the foundation is hosting four outdoor art workshops. Culture enthusiasts have the opportunity to explore experimental and novel artistic perspectives on the drained mire landscape of the Steinbeckervorstadt Polder and the landscape paintings of Caspar David Friedrich, actively participating in their development.

The Steinbeckervorstadt Polder is located right next to Caspar David Friedrich’s “Wiesen bei Greifswald” (1820/30). While the original view has been obstructed, the meadows of the Steinbeckervorstadt Polder provide a suitable alternative – with a slightly shifted perspective on the city skyline. The examination of these areas is particularly timely, as they have come into focus in recent years due to environmentally harmful drainage, drawing attention from mire scientists, politicians, and citizens. How can the mires enter the consciousness of people (in new ways)?

Artists Juliane Tübke and Alison Darby, poet Siljarosa Schletterer, and painters Lene Schwarz and Anett Simon have been invited to offer four art workshops related to peatlands, expanded environments, and landscapes for interested citizens of Greifswald. Despite their individual approaches, they share a common desire to make previously invisible knowledge tangible, reflect on the present in the mire, and develop new perspectives on the transformed nature. Interested participants are warmly invited to join.

The number of participants is limited, so advance registration up to a maximum of 10 days before the workshop starts with Ms. Miriam Strotmann (miriam.strotmann@succow-stiftung.de) is requested.

Participation is free, and donations to support the work of the Michael Succow Foundation are welcomed: IBAN: DE39 1505 0500 0100 1165 66 BIC (SWIFT-Code): NOLADE21GRW.
